An entry for Seventh Sanctum's Fantasy Folk contest. The Fantasy Race Generator stuck me with the following awesome description:

"The race of Basilisk-people. Their culture has some strict regulations on technology. Their government is ethical in its own way."

So I looked up an actual lizard called a basilisk, and the description made me think of the amish, then voila!

Amish lizard folk that farm a seemingly inhospitable desert under three varying suns. Ma and Pa touring their dirt farms.

yeah, American Gothic. I thought of that at one point, but I'd already drawn them profile, and I didn't want to go through the trouble of trying to figure out how to draw them from the front.
